Crafting Time: My Weekend with Watchmakers and Supercars
This weekend, I had the privilege of attending an extraordinary event that was a blend of precision, luxury, and speed. Hosted by the esteemed Chopard, the Horological Society of New York (HSNY) provided a hands-on watchmaking experience at Rezvani Motor, an American automotive designer renowned for high-performance sports cars.
As a long-standing member of HSNY, I’ve witnessed the evolution of horology education from online lessons during the pandemic to the tactile enrichment of in-person guidance. HSNY, one of the oldest horological associations globally, continues to uphold its mission to advance the art and science of horology with unparalleled dedication.
The event was a horologist’s dream, set against the backdrop of sleek sports cars, where the micro-mechanics of watchmaking were taught by world-class, Swiss-trained watchmakers. The course offered an immersive dive into the mechanics of a watch, covering the gear train, winding and setting mechanisms, and the escapement. It was a meticulous journey through the intricacies of watch theory and troubleshooting, energized by the collective enthusiasm of fellow horology aficionados.
Another highlight of the event was the showcase of Chopard’s latest masterpieces, presented by my friend, Anne Lee, an exceptional host from Chopard's flagship boutique in South Coast Plaza.
