The IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41: A Fusion of Legends

Two giants of watchmaking history—Gérald Genta and Kurt Klaus—come together in the new IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 in stainless steel, unveiled at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025. Genta’s iconic design meets Klaus’s groundbreaking perpetual calendar in a timepiece that blends heritage with innovation, all wrapped in a practical, wearable package.

Genta’s Design, Refined
The Ingenieur line began in 1955 as a tough, antimagnetic tool watch, but it was Genta’s 1976 redesign—the Ingenieur SL—that gave it a bold, sporty-luxury identity. The Perpetual Calendar 41 carries forward that legacy with its 41mm stainless steel case, five-screw bezel, and integrated H-link bracelet. The “Grid” pattern dial, a subtle geometric touch, ties it to its roots. To fit the perpetual calendar movement, IWC reworked the case proportions, keeping it slim at 13.4mm and comfortable for daily wear. Brushed and polished finishes add depth, balancing ruggedness with refinement.

Klaus’s Perpetual Calendar
Kurt Klaus changed the game in 1985 with his perpetual calendar, debuted in the Da Vinci. Using fewer than 100 parts and adjustable via a single crown, it simplified a traditionally complex complication. Here, it’s showcased on a blue dial: date at 3, month and moon phase at 6, and day with leap year at 9. The moon phase, accurate to within a day over 577.5 years, highlights Klaus’s genius. Setting it is straightforward—twist the crown, and the calendar aligns effortlessly.
The 82600 Calibre
Powering the watch is the IWC 82600 calibre, an automatic movement with the Pellaton winding system. This design captures energy from both directions of the rotor, building a 60-hour power reserve. Ceramic components in high-wear areas ensure durability, while a 4Hz beat rate keeps it precise. Through the sapphire caseback, you’ll see Geneva stripes and blued screws—a clean, functional finish.

A Balanced Achievement
At 41.6mm wide with a butterfly clasp, the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 feels right on the wrist. Rhodium-plated hands and Super-LumiNova markers ensure readability, and the blue dial adds a modern edge. Priced at €41,200 (around $36,900 USD), it’s a serious piece, but one that justifies its cost with history and craftsmanship. It’s the first stainless steel Ingenieur to unite Genta’s design with Klaus’s complication, making it a standout for collectors and enthusiasts alike. This isn’t just a watch—it’s a bridge between two eras, built to last.
