The World's Thinnest Watch: Konstantin Chaykin Unveils the ThinKing Prototype
Renowned independent watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin has once again pushed the boundaries of horology with the introduction of the ThinKing prototype, an extraordinary timepiece that redefines the concept of ultra-thin watches. At a mere 1.65 mm thick, the ThinKing prototype stands as the thinnest watch in the world, showcasing Chaykin's mastery of engineering and design.
A Masterpiece of Micro-Engineering
The ThinKing prototype’s ultra-slim profile is a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship and innovation for which Konstantin Chaykin is known. The watch features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 40 mm and weighs just 13.3 grams without the strap. This incredibly light and slender watch achieves its remarkable thinness without compromising on durability, thanks to the use of two sapphire crystals with a diameter of 10.4 mm and a thickness of only 0.35 mm.
The Movement: A Marvel of Miniaturization
At the heart of the ThinKing prototype is the ultra-thin caliber K.23-0, a movement entirely conceived and manufactured by Konstantin Chaykin. This intricate mechanism, integrated directly into the watch case, consists of 204 parts and 51 jewels. Despite its diminutive size, the movement includes a double balance wheel with a gear clutch (currently patent pending), a Swiss lever escapement, and a balance frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour.
The power reserve is an impressive 32 hours, provided by a single winding barrel that boasts an ultra-thin design—a feature that is also patent pending. The watch’s unique Joker-indication displays the hours and minutes in a playful and distinctive manner, continuing Chaykin's tradition of combining serious watchmaking with whimsical design.
An Ingenious Strap and Buckle System
To complement the watch’s slim design, Chaykin has developed a special strap made from black alligator leather. This strap is not only luxurious but also innovative, featuring elastic inserts and flexible titanium supports to ensure both comfort and durability—yet another feature awaiting patent approval. The stainless steel pin buckle, crafted by the Konstantin Chaykin manufacture, completes the ensemble with understated elegance.
The External Carrier Case: A Unique Addition
The ThinKing prototype is accompanied by an external carrier case, an innovative accessory that serves both as a protective cover and a functional enhancement. Made of stainless steel, the carrier case measures 45 mm in diameter and 5.4 mm thick when the ThinKing watch is enclosed. It comprises 44 individual parts, and its movement—caliber K.23-1—includes 136 parts and 19 jewels. This additional movement allows for automatic winding, manual winding, and time setting of the ThinKing watch, offering a unique blend of protection and practicality.
The ThinKing prototype is not just the thinnest watch in the world; it is a symbol of Konstantin Chaykin’s relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence in watchmaking. By blending cutting-edge technology with traditional craftsmanship, Chaykin has created a timepiece that challenges the limits of what is possible in horology. The ThinKing prototype is a true masterpiece, offering collectors and enthusiasts a glimpse into the future of ultra-thin watches.
As this prototype continues to garner attention, it is clear that Konstantin Chaykin has once again solidified his place as one of the most visionary and creative watchmakers of our time.
